Every time I restock the free little market on our sidewalk, I’m reminded that hunger is never just about food.
Food is the surface layer — the part people can see.
But beneath it lives an entire world of exhaustion, decision fatigue, nervous system overload, and the quiet, relentless work of trying to stay afloat.
Most people never think about this. And honestly? I’m glad they don’t have to.
But when someone comments on one of my videos asking why I stock macaroni and cheese, canned pasta, cereal, or soup — why I don’t “focus more on whole foods” — it tells me something important:
They’ve never felt the weight of poverty sitting on their chest.
