A little food + food for thought for Thanksgiving

11.24.2025

I don't know about you, but the holiday feels different this year.

Maybe it's because we're so exhausted from the onslaught of chaos that we're too tired to think about the "fancy holiday anxiety."

So let's shake it up a bit, shall we?

I've actually got two posts to share today - one sweet, one savory...

Wanna start with dessert?

from the blog archives:
Banana Pudding Cheesecake

Normally holiday meals aren't where I deviate from the tried and true classics we know and love. But there is an exception to every rule.

Dessert is the place where, yes, the classics are on the table, but I can add in more fun twists. If you're looking for a new sweet treat for your table, might I suggest Banana Pudding Cheesecake?

This recipe is seriously so easy to make - and it's one of the most loved recipes from my blog archives that readers have loved for years...

new on substack:
Burning My Badge of Honor

Thanksgiving week is usually where women are heaped with the responsibility of making all the things: plans, lists, food... we make shit happen.

And sadly, if you're a hyper-independent queen, it means that you're probably stressed beyond belief. I know it all too well, because I've lived it for years.

But this year has REALLY pushed me to unearth all the ways that the patriarchy has created chaos in my life - and the one thing I've learned is that hyper-independence isn't a badge of honor I wanna wear anymore.

November issue of Illumine

While I don't have any holiday sales to share this year for the shop...

I do have a bonus for you!

Any orders though the next week of the November print issue will include a surprise free gift. It could be a poster, a sticker, a postcard... none of which are in the shop and are all exclusive secret freebies you'll love.

Free bonus offer ends November 30th - or until supplies last.
Bonus only applies to print issues.

Playlist: It's Autumn

Need something a bit slower to linger in the background this week? Whether it's while you're cleaning before the big day - or if you want some music playing to set the mood during dinner - this playlist is full of lovely songs that soothe the soul.

Hope you take a moment to slow down and savor the season this week.

Love you.
Mean it.
Big time.
xoxo,
gina

Six weeks ago, when we found out that SNAP benefits were going to be withheld due to the US government shutdown, I did what every other woman around me was doing: started searching for food banks to donate to. And that was when I was shocked to learn that there is NO reliable food bank in my town. A town that has 5,000 folks living here. There are a couple of churches that have them randomly (like every 5th Thursday - aka 3-4 times a year)... but there were zero consistent resources where...

The Art of Making Life Magical(the newsletter) Let's reset, shall we? 11.20.2025 I dunno if it's mercury in the mircowave...the extinction burst of the patriarchy getting heavier...or just the longer nights and shorter days...But right now I know I'm not the only one who is on the struggle bus and the world feels SO heavy right now.You know I'm not gonna let that keep me down for long though, right? New On SubStack: When the World Feels Too Heavy... Lately, I’ve been drained. Energetically....

The Art of Making Life Magical(the newsletter) the soft rebellion is here 11.09.2025 It's been 10 days since we started our Free Little Market. And maybe it's last week's elections or maybe it's just that the oxytocin of loving my neighbors is flowing in my veins...But I feel SO different today. I don't wake up with dread of what horrible news is going to hit me today. Instead, I wake up thinking, "How can I help today?"It's a subtle shift. But man, can I feel it in every cell of my body. So...
